Vancouver, BC

HOSTED BY DOWNTOWN VAN

Celebrate winter and the holidays with this unique soundscape walk through downtown.

On Thursday, December 12th at 5:30 PM, we invite you all to join us for a unique event to brighten the darkest month of the year. This free event will start and end at Robson Square (800 Robson Street). Treats will be offered along the way. It’s a great event to bring your team, co-workers, friends, and family for an inclusive and unique gathering!

Unsilent Night, by composer Phil Kline, is a mobile outdoor sound sculpture in which the audience becomes the performer.  Composed in 1992, it has become a beloved holiday tradition for people of all ages around the world. Each participant plays one of four tracks* on a speaker, boombox, or any other device that amplifies music while walking a carefully planned route through downtown Vancouver. Participants of this free event are encouraged to dress with the festive spirit: especially with things that light up! Streets, parks, and sidewalks will come alive with a shimmering sound wall of bells and chimes to bring dreamlike joy to the neighbourhood.

The Unsilent Night app is free to download and contains the music you’ll need if you want to contribute to the soundscape, you can do so from here.
